Massage Therapy

Sports Massage

A sport massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue (muscle) in order to prevent or improve sports injuries. The therapist has a broader, more specified medical knowledge and application. He needs this in order to efficiently and safely manipulate the muscles, making sure he does not damage the fragile tissue any further. As an experienced sports trainer and therapist, Matt has extensive knowledge of sporting injuries, offering both massage therapy alongside a more detailed treatment plan.

Taping

Taping is the process of applying tape directly to the skin in order to maintain a stable position of bones and muscles during sporting activity. It is a procedure that uses athletic tape attached to the skin, to physically hold muscles or bones at a certain position. This reduces pain and aids recovery. Taping is usually used to help recover from overuse and other injuries.

Deep Tissue Therapy

A deep tissue massage is where pressure is adjusted to manipulate the deeper tissue layers in the body. The therapist works on these layers, but not so deep as to work all the way through like with a sports massage. This type of pressure is still efficient enough to release any newly formed or small knots and to stretch stiff muscles. I mention new or small knots, because big tension knots are caused by a build up over time, or because of injury. This is a job for a specially trained sports massage therapist.

Postural Allignment

Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy (MAT) is a technique that's designed to re-balance the body. Over time our bodies shift and adjust to the stresses of everyday life and as a result, our bodies shift out of balance. We hunch forward. Our heads tilt and lean forward. We carry our shoulders up. MAT is designed to correct those imbalances and return the body to it's optimal alignment by putting muscles where they belong and making them move.

Pain Management

Most massage techniques are designed to promote pain relief, stress reduction, and improved movement in daily living. Massage therapy has been shown to improve joint flexibility, relieve lower back pain, and stimulate the release of endorphins. It can also be used to treat and prevent a range of conditions including headaches, anxiety, depression. Please get in contact to discuss individual concerns.
